During this section of our farmhouse makeover, you’ll learn how to make a candlestick from a spindle for under $5!
If you’ve been following my weekly Facebook Live videos, you have seen the candlestick that I made using a wooden spindle.
Today, I’m going to show you how to make a candlestick of your own. 😊
They are super easy and cost less than $5!!

First, you’ll need to get a spindle. If you have an old chair, you can use one off of there.
But, if you don’t, you can purchase one from any home improvement store or find one on Amazon here. They cost around $1.00 each.I used our skill saw to cut them down to size. I don’t recommend a skill saw though because I can never get them straight. Carson always has to straighten them up for me.
One of these days, I’ll get a miter saw. 😉
I purchased a small round and square wood plaque for the top and bottom of the candlestick.
They were only $0.99 each and they had a lot of different styles.
You can purchase some here at Michael’s.
Then, I glued the square wood to the bottom of the spindle and the round wood to the top of the spindle. I turned the round wood upside down because I purchased a slightly beveled one and I wanted it to bevel underneath to look like a real candlestick.
After the glue was dry, I screwed them into place using a flat head screw so they won’t be in the way of the candle.
I painted them white and then distressed them using a small piece of sandpaper.
Then I dry brushed the blue over the white.
Dry brushing is using a very small amount of paint and then wiping off any excess before barely brushing it onto your project.
And that’s it!
I purchased an LED battery operated candle for a couple of dollars at Wal-Mart but you can also buy them on Amazon here.
This is one of the easiest DIY projects that I have done so far and so inexpensive!
